Mr Dittmar is well-respected in America as an urban planner and designer, having worked for President Clinton and tipped for a job in Al Gore’s cabinet if the 2000 election had turned out differently.
He was living in New Mexico when the call came inviting him to work for the Prince of Wales, and he already knew about the heir to the throne’s interest in architecture. ‘A lot [of his ideas] are way out for the first 10 years and then they become received wisdom and everyone else takes credit for them.’Watch the interview video
